How to arrange a Relæxt experience at Sentralen

RELÆXT makes cultural experiences more accessible, safe and predictable — without compromising the artistic level. When you organize RELÆXT with us at Sentralen, you reach new audiences and contribute to a more inclusive cultural life.

RELÆXT konsert på Sentralen

RELÆXT is an offering that makes cultural experiences more accessible and predictable. When you organize a RELÆXT experience, you give more people the opportunity to experience art and culture — on their own terms.

What does it mean to host a Relæxt experience?

RELÆXT is a concept of inclusive cultural experiences based on “Relaxed Performance” from England, and is about more than just technical facilitation. The most important thing is to create a safe environment where the public can come and go as they please, react as they please, and get the necessary information up front. The public should not face barriers -- neither practical nor social.

The aim is to create a safe and predictable environment where everyone, especially those in need of facilitation, can participate on their own terms. RELÆXT is a carefully tailored methodology developed by The Arctic Theatre in collaboration with research communities and user organisations

In order to use the Relæxt name, you have to follow the whole concept. You undertake to follow the supervisor and the agreed criteria when you sign a contract with us.

In which premises at Sentralen can you arrange RELÆXT?

RELÆXT can only be conducted in Marmorsalen and Forstanderskapssalen. Both halls have their own Relæxt zones: Dronningen and Direktørrommet. These zones provide the audience with a sheltered and serene space to retreat to before, during or after the performance.

Marmorsalen can accommodate up to 130 people, Forstanderskapssalen up to 60 — adjusted as needed for wheelchair spaces.

How to get started with arranging RELÆXT with us

Relæxt experiences can use the Sentralen UNG or Sentralen MINT rental schemes.

  • Send a request to booking@sentralen.no
  • We send you the guide and the criteria for arranging REÆXT with us
  • We arrange a physical or digital meeting to talk
  • You get a contract and send it signed back

Your event cannot use the Relæxt name without you following the concept in its entirety.

All Relæxt events must use our ticketing system Tixly

All Relæxt events must use our ticketing system Tixly. This applies to whether you are hosting a free event or selling tickets. This gives you and us:

control on the number of audience members and attendants

overview of the number of wheelchair users

opportunity to send out a visual guide before the performance

You must fill in a ticket form no later than 30 days before event start.

The visual guide — the audience's most important tool

You need to create a visual guide that describes the experience from start to finish. The guide prepares the audience and creates predictability. Among other things, it will show what it looks like here at Sentralen, who the artists are, and what the public can expect.

The guide must be ready and sent to us digitally no later than two weeks before the event.

We are happy to help you by sending you examples of visual guides that we have created ourselves. We can also send you photos to use and put you in touch with a graphic designer who can create the visual guide based on our template. You have to pay the graphic designer for the work yourself.

We can publish your visual guide digitally if you send it to us in pdf. You'll need to print up a few copies of your own use at the event.

See the visual guides we have created (Issuu).

Production and engineering

After the contract is signed, you will get in touch with one of our producers. We will arrange a production meeting well in advance. Then we go through the run-through plan, rigging, release and staffing.

Sound and light must be adapted to the Relæxt concept:

  • Sound level: max 90 dBA average, max 96 dBA peak
  • No strobe lights or smoke
  • Lightning may be muted but never turned off

We recommend performances of 45—60 minutes, and we always set aside one hour for audience release.

You have to set up your own audience hosts

We provide a Relæxt host and two ticket hosts. You need to provide:

  • Own Audience Hosts
  • One conference

Everyone working at the event needs to get the supervisor and visual guide ahead of time, and you'll need to keep a joint brief before the audience is let in. The hosts should be visible, helpful and familiar with the concept.

Communication and marketing

We publish the event on our website when you have sent the ticket form, and inform about the event in our newsletter. You also need to market yourself — we recommend that you:

  • Create your own Facebook event
  • Contact relevant organisations

We send the visual guide to ticket buyers 72 hours before the event.
