Environmental and sustainability work at Sentralen
We at Sentralen want to contribute to a more sustainable society. Through our work regarding environment and sustainability, we want to reduce our environmental impact, contribute to a safe and inclusive work environment, and inspire others we work with to make sustainable choices.

On this page you can read more about our work on the environment, sustainability and the working environment. If you want to take a deep dive into this work, you can read our Environmental Policy and our Environmental Lighthouse Report 2024 by clicking on the buttons above.
Miljøfyrtårn
Sentralen was certified as Miljøfyrtårn for the first time in 2022. This year we can celebrate continuing this trend of approved recertification on May 22, 2025. The certification has helped us systematize the work we do to reduce our environmental impact. As part of the certification, we have reported annually on our initiatives and results in areas such as work environment, waste management, energy, transport and procurement.
Miljøfyrtårn is Norway's most widely used certification scheme for businesses that want to document their environmental work. Being Miljøfyrtårn-certified means not only that we meet set requirements, but that we are committed to continuous improvement.
As an event venue and meeting place in the heart of central Oslo, with over a thousand events a year, we are conscious of our responsibility. It is important for us to facilitate more sustainable choices, both for tenants, organisers, guests and staff.
Green Producers Tool
To work purposefully on emission reduction, we have chosen to use the Green Producers Tool - a digital tool developed for the culture and entertainment industry. This tool makes it possible to calculate and understand our greenhouse gas emissions related to both our operations and events that take place at Sentralen. The aim is to identify our emissions in order to systematically work on reducing them.
Are you planning an event at Sentralen? With the Green Producers Tool, you can map greenhouse gas emissions and get concrete advice on how they can be reduced. Please contact your manufacturer at produksjon@sentralen.no for more information.
Green Producers Club
Sentralen is a member of the Green Producers Club - a network for actors in the cultural sector working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The club brings together users of the Green Producers Tool and facilitates experience sharing, common methods and knowledge development.
Environmental measures we work on at Sentralen
Sentralen is a large house with many events and workplaces. Some of the essential areas we are continuously working on to reduce our emissions are reduction and management of energy use, and waste reduction and sorting. Here are some of the measures we are taking in these areas.
- Use of district heating: The whole building is heated with district heating
- Demand-controlled ventilation: The amount of air is adjusted according to the number of people in the rooms and halls, which reduces unnecessary energy use.
- Time-controlled ventilation: Ventilation systems are adjusted weekly according to the activity of the house, and we are working on solutions for night immersion to further save energy.
- Energy Efficient Improvements: We upgrade control systems and install locks and new doors to reduce draft and heat loss.
- Reducing waste: We have installed electric hand dryers in all toilets and thus reduced waste in the form of paper towels.
- Install Compost Reactor: By 2025, we will install a compost reactor that can reduce the amount of food waste by up to 80%. This will also lead to less transport of waste.
In our Environmental Policy you can read more about the various objectives and measures we have within our work with the environment and sustainability.
