About
Christian Norberg-Schulz Hall
The Christian Norberg-Schulz Hall is a bright and timeless room with high ceilings, large windows, and walls lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The light wooden floors and warm timber finishes create a calm and inviting atmosphere. Along one side of the room, large windows offer views of the Sverre Fehn Pavilion, while the bookshelves on the opposite side and along the shorter walls add depth, texture, and a strong academic character.
The room is equipped with a fixed screen and a ceiling-mounted projector, and works well for both theatre-style seating for lectures and table setups for seminars, meetings, and discussions. Regardless of layout, the room maintains a distinct identity—a combination of library, hall, and workspace.
This is a space with a clear architectural identity, where materials, proportions, and interior design come together to create a comfortable and inspiring environment.
The room is available for rent from April 8, 2026.
About Christian Norberg-Schulz
Christian Norberg-Schulz (1926–2000) was educated at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. He was a professor at the Oslo School of Architecture and an internationally recognised architectural theorist who played a key role in highlighting and contextualising Norwegian architecture.
Norberg-Schulz contributed to the development of a strong academic discourse spanning both theoretical and practical architecture. He established phenomenology as a central approach within architectural theory, notably through his development of the concept of genius loci (the spirit of place).
He authored several influential books, including Genius Loci, Intentions in Architecture, and Meaning in Western Architecture. His work significantly advanced the understanding of traditional building practices and the relationship between architecture and landscape. He was also an important voice in the critique of modernism and in the development of site-specific postmodernism.
