In 2026, Sentralen is celebrating 10 years!
Saturday, February 28th marked 10 years since we opened Sentralen, and to mark the occasion, we hosted a big birthday party in collaboration with a range of fantastic organizers and artists!
For ten years, we've been an open house for art, culture, volunteering, ideas, and people. To celebrate this, we filled the entire building with activity and invited the public to experience the breadth, diversity, and energy that have characterized Sentralen since it opened.
- This is a celebration of everyone who has used the building over these years, whether as an audience member, organizer, or partner. It's the people and the projects that have made Sentralen the vibrant meeting place it is today, says Emma Damskau, project manager for the anniversary and head of Sentralen MINT (diversity, inclusion, and belonging).
What happened during the birthday celebration
Saturday, February 28th marked 10 years since we opened Sentralen, and to mark the occasion, we hosted a big birthday party in collaboration with a range of fantastic organizers and artists!
From early morning to late at night, the building filled with experiences for all ages and interests. The program flowed seamlessly from daytime activities for adults, babies, and families, through offerings for teens and young adults, and into an evening program for those over 18. Along the way, the building offered everything from craft workshops, theater, and social dancing to roller disco, concerts, drag bingo, and affordable good food. This was just a taste of what the day had to offer.
The entire birthday program was free, as a thank-you to everyone who uses the building, whether as a guest or an organizer, and who has helped make Sentralen the vibrant meeting place it is today.
The program ran in parallel across all of Sentralen's rooms and halls, and visitors were free to come and go as they pleased.
Sentralen 2016–2026
Since opening in 2016, Sentralen has grown into a central arena for art and culture projects. With over 30 different rooms and halls, the building accommodates everything from intimate workshops and meetings to larger festivals and stage events. Every year, the building hosts hundreds of events, and many initiatives have had the chance to grow over time, from idea and volunteer effort into more sustainable communities and organizations.
Sentralen was established with a clear ambition to be a house that makes room for people and processes, including those that can't always be fully planned or measured. Flexibility, trust, and a long-term outlook have been fundamental principles, allowing projects to develop in step with their own needs.
Sentralen: the next 10 years
The birthday isn't just a celebration of what has been, but also a marker of what's to come. We look forward to continuing to be an open house for new experiences, new ideas, and new collaborations, together with you.
