Have you ever wondered about the multilingual mind? Do you speak more than one language? Or are you raising multilingual children?
Welcome to the third edition of “The Multilingual Parent Lab”! In the first and second editions of this workshop (22nd February and 22nd March) we talked about common myths and misconceptions about multilingualism, and the relationship between bilingualism and cognition. Coming up next, we will dive into two of the most interesting topics in multilingualism: Language Mixing. Why does it have such a bad reputation? What do we call language mixing, or language switching? What are the reasons why children may mix or switch languages? And how can we create more opportunities for language input and use when we are the only source of input in our child's environment? Don’t hesitate and join us on April 26th to answer these and more questions!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
· 13-14h: Talk about what ‘the science says’ and how we interpret it. Q&A with participants during the talk.
· After 14h: One on one Q&A between participants and workshop facilitator. Social mingling among participants.
ABOUT THE MULTILINGUAL PARENT LAB SERIES
If multilingualism is a part of your life, you have probably asked yourself questions about if, and how, knowing more than one language affects your mind, the way you think or even the way you feel.
In the last few years, discussions around multilingualism seem to be as present as ever, in relation to science, society, politics, and technology no less. But with increased attention and media presence, comes confusion and lack of nuance. What does the latest science say about multilingualism? And how can we bring some of that knowledge into our everyday (multilingual) lives in a way that is clear, holistic and manageable?
The Multilingual Parent Lab is a space designed specifically for that - where science and community meet. In this monthly workshop series, we welcome parents raising multilingual children, and people who are curious about multilingualism, to participate in hands-on discussions on multilingualism: does bilingualism really improve cognition? is mixing languages bad? Does age play a crucial factor in language learning? Is there a "best" strategy to raise a multilingual child? Can AI language technologies promote or hinder multilingualism?

- Are you two caregivers in your family and want to come together? You may purchase one ticket only
